Performing w/ Toronto Symphony Orchestra Student Concerts in April!
Are you a teacher, or do you have children in grades 4 – 8 ?
Join the TSO and Sultans of String for a concert of music written in the styles of numerous global traditions. There is a long history of composers being influenced by other cultures. In the past, composers would travel to various regions of the world to soak up the local tradition and write in that region’s style. Many of the gems of classical orchestral repertoire can be considered “world music”!As our world grows smaller, and as our city of Toronto becomes more and more multicultural, Canadian composers Chris McKhool and Kevin Laliberté of Sultans of String do not have to go very far to create a “global sonic tapestry”. Students will enjoy a programme of “world music” for orchestra and the musical fusion of styles influencing composers today. All concerts are one hour long and take place in Roy Thompson Hall, April 22-26, 2013.
