I AM A REFUGEE – Single Released Today!

Hello wonderful friends and fans!

We are so excited – today is the day we get to start to share with you the collaborations we have been working on for the last year with Sultans of String. Our hearts are bursting with gratitude to all of you for supporting our newest project.

You can see the VIDEO and read the full feature from here

Sultans of String welcome Somali artist Ifrah Mansour with open arms in their new single and video I Am A Refugee— premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.

The gorgeous and heart-gripping collaboration with the esteemed poet, multimedia artist, and refugee is part of the Juno-winning world music collective’s ambitious seventh album Refuge. Set for release in spring 2020, the historic album spotlights talents that have come to Canada and the U.S. as immigrants and refugees.

For her part, Mansour’s tireless work and advocacy complement the mission. “I wrote the poem for me, for my community, and for those yearning for change or to deepen their empathy,” she says. “I wrote it because I was so frustrated with so many people sending me emails, and asking what I thought about (the United States) travel ban. A lot of times, those that are surviving are busy surviving… It is very hard for them to voice their pain. Those that have an ounce of empathy, and that have experienced something similar, have that responsibility to share. Writing the poem was a way to unleash some pain that I could name finally.”

Guest musicians include Marito Marques and Fethi Nadjem and cameos by Ahmed Salah Moneka, Waleed Abdulhamid, and Majd Sekkar. Filmed by Jake Roels and recorded with John Bailey, with regular band members Chris McKhool, Kevin Laliberte, Drew Birston, Eddie Paton, and Rosendo Chendy León.

*** We will be releasing singles in October, January and February, with full album release in March. For those who have pre-ordered the physical CD, you will be the very first people to receive the album in the New Year!   It would be wonderful if you help spread the word by forwarding this page to your friends, family, and colleagues, and help us make some noise about this project.
