NEW VIDEO, and tomorrow in TORONTO – The biggest show ever!

TORONTO LUMINATO – FREE

Tomorrow Saturday June 6

I am so proud of what we have accomplished with this special project, Walking Through the Fire.

It started off as a question from our dear collaborator, Dr. Duke Redbird. He said to me “Chris, when are you going to do for awareness of Indigenous issues what you have done new immigrants and refugees?”  It was a direct call to action, and I started reaching out to some of the tremendous Indigenous artists here in Northern Turtle Island. We started creating music together, eventually making a CD recording of our work.  We never realized it would eventually turn into a live concert production, now in it’s third year, or a film that would go on to win awards at the Cannes World Film Festival!

I want to share this work with you, and tomorrow in Toronto, we have a very special day of free programming at Luminato Festival in Toronto. The film is being screened at 1:00 pm at Harbourfront Studio Theatre, and at 8:00 pm we have the largest group of Indigenous artists assembled to date to join me, Kevin and Drew of Sultans of String on the Harbourfront Amphitheatre onstage.

And during the day these artists are also performing their own sets on the Green Lawn Stage of Harbourfront! The North Sound, Alyssa Katrine, Marc Meriläinen, Don Ross, and so much more happening!

Here is the schedule,  and below is also a new video with one of our tremendous artist collaborators, JUNO winner Leela Gilday!

Celebrate the land we live on, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. Celebrate the voices that have echoed long before ours.

In this daylong celebration of earth, water and community, The Power of the Land invites audiences into the cultural teachings of Turtle Island, led and curated by Elder Duke Redbird (Ojibwe/ Saugeen First Nation), featuring artist and ancestral knowledge keeper, Philip Cote (Ojibwe/Moose Deer Point), Sultans of String, The North Sound, Don Ross, Marc Meriläinen, Alyssa Katrine, Shannon Thunderbird, SHUB, along with virtual guests Angela Amarualik, Leela Gilday, Northern Cree. Based on the Indigenous ecological knowledge system of the lunar calendar, you will be immersed in traditional and contemporary Indigenous art, including processional performances, interactive works, ceremony, and musical acts from the award-winning album Walking Through The Fire.

Come with an open heart and prepare to be filled with all day FREE programming.
